Concha Fernandez de la Puente reminds us to update our bookmarks for the Digicult and the Telematics for Libraries web sites.
The European Commission DG Information Society D2 Cultural Heritage Applications Unit has moved its two sites from the Echo to the Cordis server.
The Digicult web site [1] provides information on the digital heritage and cultural content area of the Information Society Technologies (IST) Programme. Work in this area is aimed at expanding the contribution of libraries, museums and archives to the emerging culture economy, including economic, scientific and technological development.
The site has a dual purpose:

The pages are structured into the following main areas:
In order to facilitate the exchange of ideas and comments and contact with the Commission a Feedback option and a Keep me Informed facility are also included.
Last but not least, the English language section is supplemented by resource pages in French, German, Italian and Spanish. These pages contain only a part of the information contained in the English section.
The Telematics for Libraries [6] web site provides core information on the work carried out by the European Commission in the libraries field under the Third and Fourth Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development, Telematics for Libraries, from 1990 to 1998. Very active during the previous programmes, this site is now static except for updates to the on-going project synopses. Some sections have been edited in order to provide an overview of the work carried out and sections which contained only links have been deleted, as these pages will no longer be updated.

The page has several section which are described below.
The Activities section includes an Introduction where the scope of the programmes is explained and background information provided, a list of Projects where all the funded projects are listed and links to their synopses are provided, details of Support Actions which contains links to reports on concerted actions, workshops and concertation meetings in support of our sector objectives and a list of Publications which contains links to studies undertaken by Telematics for Libraries.
The Background section includes Support documentation, background information on Policy in the field of libraries and Statistics on the programme results from 1990 to 1998.
The Focus section includes information on public libraries, Music libraries, Distance learning, Metadata, library cooperation with Central and Eastern Europe (C&EE) and Software.
The Contacts section provides contact details and a list of potential Libraries test sites.
Pages in French, German, Spanish and Italian containing a part of the information provided in the English pages can also be visited.
With these two sites, the unit is aiming at providing current information on its current activities and past work.
